On August 18th 2016, Justin Bieber’s nude photos were once again leaked, this time being from @chanteljeffries Instagram account, who supposedly had a fling with Justin back in 2014. Chantel then went on to post on her Twitter account, which has over 200 thousand followers, that someone had been trying to hack her accounts all day long and that she wasn’t the one to have posted the image of Justin. Chantel’s personal team then quickly worked to get the image taken down, which resulted in both her account and the image being taken down in under 15 minuets.

Due to this situation, Chantel has become a lot more well known to people as fans of Justin Bieber wanted to know all about her. Therefore, this incident has resulted in her career becoming more popular rather than her followers subtracting.

However, not all social media incidents have a positive impact, a well-known case about a girl named Amanda Todd began to circulate across the internet back in 2012. Amanda had become friends with someone online, who she then went onto showing her boobs to. This ‘online friend’ however used these images of her boobs to blackmail her online by sharing this pictures with everyone. This resulted in Amanda having to move schools several times as the person black mailing her followed her wherever she went with the same pictures. Her whole life was ruined due to these pictures being spread across the whole world and everyone knowing her story which therefore resulted in her taking her own life at the end of 2012.

Back in 2012, the amount of people using social media was 1.47 billion, and it was estimated at the time that it would continue to grow and by 2016 there would be 2.37 billion active users (http://www.emarketer.com/Article/Social-Networking-Reaches-Nearly-One-Four-Around-World/1009976). This statistic came in close, as there are currently around 2.307 billion active users (http://www.smartinsights.com/social-media-marketing/social-media-strategy/new-global-social-media-research/). So, despite the negative aspects of using social media dominating the reasons for using social media, people continue to do so, as they don’t fully comprehend the risks until they become a reality.
